Katie Black

My name is Katie Black. I grew up in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in Denver for the last 5 years with my husband, Sean and puppy, Riley. I love being active and exploring in the mountains. I've worked in the field of education for 10 years in various roles. I believe that all students have the ability to learn regardless of their disability. I have a passion for student behavior management and problem solving in the classroom. This is my second year teaching at Miller in the Lighthouse Program. This year I am working with high school and transition students. As a class, we are focused on daily living skills and career exploration.

The lighthouse crew is broken up into two classrooms. Our younger students focus on academic skills. Right now, they are learning about space, government and laws, money math, and unique stories for literacy. Our older students focus on academics, daily living skills, employability activities, and community-based instruction. Our programs primary focus is to help students manage their behavior as they navigate through their school day.
